GenZ’s Jig for Gigs: Why Youngsters Gravitate Towards the Gig Economy?

The future of work is really about people deciding to live and work in the way that they want.’ GenZ are their own boss, living life without inhibitions, the inhibitions that come with a long term job. Today’s youth is constantly on the move, wanting more, doing more, living more and don’t want to spend their years restricted to the same cubicle of the same job of the same firm. Over 43% of GenZ are part of the gig economy, with 45% of them being top earners. 


 Gig economy is frankly the new fad, and the youth is falling prey to this herd mentality. The idea of earning more money and increased flexibility as the primary reasons, leading up to this shift. GenZ’s obsession with social media and the deep influence on mindset these apps have on these digital natives are also contributors.

Passion over practicality is the prevailing mindset and getting to work on your passion freely with increased pay seems the ideal life right? They are also travelers, and wish to live life on their own terms and gig work gives them the opportunity to schedule, organize, and work as the mid wills. 


The GenZ has also grown up in the era of technological breakthroughs and wish to leverage these advancements to improve their lifestyles. Over 56% Genz consider themselves to be creative and gigs allow them to channelise this creativity into a full fledged career. 

Gig work also pays faster, and for a generation that likes quick validations, the easy money is the perfect gravitator. By providing additional earning opportunities and the possibility of working at multiple projects simultaneously, Genz are able to limit their financial risks. Financial stability is the biggest question posed to this generation and the gig economy is the perfect answer. 


Tagged with being the most entrepreneurial generation, gigs allow Genz to be independent, self-reliant and offer a greater work life balance. 

Gigs draw this generation to their dream life- good pay, independence, mobility and flexibility, becoming the reason why 4 out of 5 Genzs prefer a gig job over a corporate one.
